400 Million Grocery Store Trips Analyzed in Expanded, Yearlong MegaStudy Released by VideoMining

State College, Pa., November 12, 2019 — VideoMining Corporation, the leader of in-store behavior analytics for CPG retail, announced the expansion of the industry-standard Grocery Shopper Insights (GSI) MegaStudy with the inclusion of yearlong analysis of more than 400 million grocery trips across a nationally representative panel of stores from a diverse set of retailers.

The GSI MegaStudy utilizes a proprietary suite of advanced sensing and artificial intelligence technologies to capture and interpret in-store shopper behavior in the Grocery channel. The only program of its kind, the GSI MegaStudy provides a host of foundational insights for every product category and tracks relevant shopper behavior trends for the Grocery industry.

The expanded sample and yearlong data enables many new and powerful insights from the program. Besides enhancing the popular Category Fundamentals and Display Playbook, the data will empower a new Trip Tracker Tool to help in understanding the dynamics of grocery purchase behavior throughout the year at a very granular level. Specific insights enabled by the trip analytics tool include:

Seasonality: How does purchase behavior for each category or brand change based on seasons, marketing campaigns and special events such as The Big Game?

Granularity: Ability to drill down into product segments, pack sizes, brands, flavors, etc. to gain deeper understanding of store trips and uncover new opportunities for a category or brand.

Trip Missions: How does the purchase behavior vary for different types of trips – based on shopper needs and occasions, e.g. a grilling occasion or a quick trip for picking up beer?

“The Grocery channel is going through disruptive change today, so it’s critical for all stakeholders to understand the dynamics of the changing shopper behavior,” stated Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Founder & CEO of VideoMining. “We are very excited to expand our GSI program to do continuous, year-round analysis of shopper behavior, enabling unprecedented access to actionable insights.”

Insights from the GSI MegaStudy are delivered through a range of customizable packages and interactive cloud-based tools. Broad shopper trends as well as specific case studies are also reported in various industry publications and conferences. Similar programs — along with a full suite of foundational insights and custom analytics opportunities — are also available in the C-Store and Drug store channels.
